Academic Achievement & Character Development

The Toward Higher Ground program represents a research-based approach to combining character development with student achievement. The program helps teachers achieve three important goals:

  • Increase academic achievement
  • Improve student character
  • Increase student confidence and motivation

Here’s a brief outline of the workshop:

  • Research: What do we know and how can we actually put it to use?
  • Assessment: Where are we now and how do we find out?
  • Planning: What do we need to do and what are the steps for getting it done?
  • Implementation: Who should be involved and how do we get them on board?
  • Sustainability: How do we track our progress and how do we continue improving for the long term?

When teachers leave the full-day workshop, they walk out not only with inspiration and ideas, but with a real step-by-step plan, including assessment tools, DVDs, and electronic and print resources, all custom built through the workshop to fit the unique needs of their students. I also provide follow-up service to analyze the results of school-based assessments and provide feedback to teachers to help them determine and report their successes, identifying areas for improvement to achieve success and sustain it for the long term.
